FEARS OF OUTBREAK AS SEWAGE CONTAMINATES PIPED WATER
Residents of ‘Kwa Gûtû’ area in the sprawling Majimbo estate are living in fear of contracting cholera and other water borne diseases after a smelly, greyish substance suspected to be raw sewage began flowing from their taps.
According to the residents the problem started three weeks ago after a prolonged water shortage occasioned by tarmacking of a nearby road which destroyed water pipes. However, after the pipes were repaired, taps in the area started emitting the smelly substance. The more than 100 residents of ‘Kwa Gûtû’ now depend on their neighbors and a nearby river for the precious commodity as they wait for supply of clean water to be restored.
Ewasco head of technical services Felix Gitonga said the firm was doing its best to ensure the problem was contained.
